Odyr

Odyr is one of the greatest Brazilian cartoonists ever. He is the author of a vast enchanting work that has been gaining international attention since 2019, when the first foreign publications of his adaptation of ANIMAL FARM, by George Orwell, got to readers in many territories. Launched in Brazil by Companhia das Letras in 2018,
it instantly became a hit and not much longer was released in the US by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and in the UK by Penguin-RH, as well as in Spain, again by Penguin-RH. Odyr is currently focused on the graphic adaptation of Brazilian classic novel MORTE E VIDA SEVERINA (DEATH AND LIFE SEVERINA, by João Cabral de Melo Neto, for Companhia das Letras.
THE LION AND THE COUNTRY [O LEÃO E A PÁTRIA]
This is the beautiful graphic adaptation of two of the most intriguing and timely short-stories by the Uruguayan classic master Horacio Quiroga (1878-1937). Two pieces from Quiroga’s short-story volume El Desierto (The Desert), “El León” and “La Pátria”, are created graphically and superbly in The Lion And The Country, reflecting upon the process of civilization and its impact on the human species, by Brazilian cartoonist, painter and designer, Odyr.
Quiroga’s oeuvre is in public domain, and the graphic novel The Lion And The Country is offered both in the original Spanish text and in the translation to Portuguese made by Companhia das Letras.
